So, it’s been almost two weeks. 13 days. I had a few problems today when I got home. For one, I couldn’t turn my lights on last night, cause I was at work for 36 hours straight. So, when I got home, unlit plants and I found my filter to be totally clogged and the water dirty. Seems the Red Foxtail is very delicate and clogs the filter. SO, I thought I’d make the best of it and change my water AND move some plants around. I change 50% of the water, which I will do every week from now on (maybe only 25% change from here forward). I also added Flourish Potassium and Iron Ferts for the plants. They are looking pretty good, but they’re using a lot of the water in the tank and so were in need of a little help. I’m finally getting some Amano shrimp this weekend, can’t wait.
So, yeah, I moved some plants around and made room for the new additions tomorrow. My pal from Aquariacentral is selling me some Pennywort, some Rotala and a Xingu Sword. So I moved some things around, got that foxtail AWAY from the filter, did my water change and added ferts.
All this going on 39 hours awake with no sleep. But now, off to dreamland…….
and compared to day 003:
HA! Well, what surprise! I get home and lovingly start at my tank while sipping a delicious tecate, and low and behold, a pretty big snail comes rolling up. It’s not eating any of the plants, so I think it’s ok to keep in the tank. It travels along the glass and just glides it’s away across my aquascape, so I think it’s just enjoying life right now. It’s pretty cool to think that, without even trying, life just keeps going.
My plants are looking really good! My C02 is finally working normally and my cabomba is practically leaping out of the tank. There’s 4, almost 5 stems reaching the top of the tank, and one’s even having to arch over. Gonna have to trim these guys next week and replant new stems!
A few quick shots today to show progress….I separated one clump of baby tears and spread them out on the lawn. I’m getting two new plants next week and also an algae eater and MAYBE even some fish! I’ve included a bigger tank pic for ya
Listening to Yo La Tengo, The Sounds of the Sounds of Science. All is Wonderful. Cheers.

Well, man, today work was hard! I couldn’t wait to come home and look in on my tank. Everything seems to be great! My Cabomba Furcata is awesome, it was low and kind brownish on Sat. when I planted it, but now it’s fully green, growing straight up. Loving the 65 wattts! The baby tears are looking great too, I hope they spread soon, there’s a small bud starting to grow. My C02 is a little funny, it’s not working the way it should, but I got some help and found out it needs to be warm. Some people put their cannister in a tank with warm water! I’m giving it one more day and if not, I’m trying a homemade mixture instead of the packets it comes with. Thanks to BrooKLyNs Boi for all his help.
A few new things… My Red Nesea is actually Ammannia Gracilis!

Here’s the mixture for DIY C02: Stabilizer: 1 teaspoon Baking Soda / Activator: 1/8 teaspoon Active Dry Yeast / Sugar: 1/2 cup
Gonna get fish soon, I think. Brooklyn boi suggests cory cats, mollies, platy, swordtails, bloodfin tetra, rummy nose tetra, serae tetras and rasboras. I trimmed the Sword and planted the runner and I think it’s already growing! There’s a few more stems on that runner, I’ll propagate in a few days.
Things to buy: Flourish Plant Supplement, 5 gallon bucket, some rags for tank use only, a fish net and a vacuum.
AND changing my water soon. Changing about 10-25%, once a week from now on.
New changes; Water temp goes from 72 to 80, and lights stay on from 12-14 hours to about only 10.
Enjoi the new pics.
